After several years of drought, Hollywood movie director Guy Ritchie will once again try his luck on the box-office after getting the directorial duty for one of the most anticipated movies for 2010, Warner Bros. remake of the classic detective literary piece Sherlock Holmes.

The director, who is married to the Queen of Pop Madonna, will be working along side two of Hollywood’s hottest actors today: Robert Downey Jr. who will be playing the legendary detective, and Russell Crowe as his loyal confidant Dr. Watson.

Press releases for the movie have quoted Ritchie saying that he will try to change the way how Holmes has been portrayed by concentrating on his skills as a boxer and a swrodfighter. The Guiness Book of World Records have listed the mystery-solving detective as the most portrayed movie character, with over 70 actors playing the part in more than 200 films.

Ritchie has not had a big box-office hit since “Snatch”, which starred Brad Pitt, in 2000. Most of his films have been disasters, including one that he did with wifey Madonna, “Swept Away”. His latest film “RocknRolla” is set to be released this autumn.

Derek Jeter has a lot going for him. He’s the captain of the New York Yankees, he makes a ton of money, and he has the whole city of New York under his thumb. Songwriter Kara DioGuardi will be joining Simon, Paula, and Randy for the eighth season of American Idol as a permanent fourth judge.

The show has hired the help of DioGuardi in order to bring a new perspective when it comes to choosing idols, which, in turn, the show hopes to reinvigorate its credibility and save it from falling ratings.

Idol hasn’t really delivered its promise of producing multiplatinum record sellers. Only a select few have enjoyed post-idol success (Clarkson and Underwood), while most have simply been forgotten. In addition, the chemistry of the three judges (Abdul, Cowell, and Jackson) have grown pretty stagnant over the years—sometimes even predictable, while other times suspiciously scripted.

With the addition of DioGuardi, the show will have a younger, more hip, and more “pop-culturally” sensitive judge to join the mix. While no one really knows, for now, how DioGuardi will deliver her criticisms, she has stated in a recent interview that she “will be more like Cowell rather than the other two.” Other than that, however, DioGuardi possesses qualities that the show might need to get back on top. For one, she’s relatively young. At 37, she will the youngest of the four—Abdul is 46, Cowell is 48, and Jackson is 52. This makes her musical taste more akin to the younger generation, who reportedly “abandoned” the show during its last season—which most likely explains the drop in ratings. More importantly, DioGuardi is working with artists who people actually listen to at present.

The Addition of a new judge may seem like a desperate move for some, while others may think its brilliant, but no matter how you put it, American Idol is always trying to up the ante when it comes to looking for new personalities. So this is definitely good news for all idol hopefuls. Auditions start Tuesday in New York, and you can be sure they’re going to be searching for more diverse individuals to turn some heads and recover some ratings.

Following the runaway success of The Dark Knight, which earned over $800 million worldwide, Warner Brothers Studio executives are planning to further capitalize on their superhero franchises based on DC Comics characters. Their first order of business is Warner Brothers Picture Group President’s, Jeff Robinov, announcement regarding plans for a reintroduction of Superman, which is good news for fans and professional actors/actresses alike.

“‘Superman’ didn’t quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to,” says Mr. Robinov. “It didn’t position the character the way he needed to be positioned.” “Had ‘Superman’ worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009.”

The new Superman movie will work in the same way as Louis Leterrier’s remake of The Incredible Hulk after Ang Lee’s earlier and disappointing adaptation.

It turns out that Warner Bros. had its eye on a “Superman vs. Batman” film some years back, but because of Superman Return’s limited success, studio executives were forced to scrap the idea. Instead, they are taking it one step at a time by creating movies which focuses on introducing and developing individual characters, another tactic borrowed from Marvel, before even thinking about films which feature multicharacters.

An article from Variety also states, “By 2011, Mr. Robinov plans for DC Comics to supply the material for up to two of the six to eight tent-pole films he hopes Warner Bros. will have in the pipeline by then. With “Batman vs. Superman” and “Justice League” stalled, Warner Bros. has quietly adopted Marvel’s model of releasing a single film for each character, and then using those movies and their sequels to build up to a multicharacter film. “Along those lines, we have been developing every DC character that we own,” Mr. Robinov says.

Like the recent Batman sequel — which has become the highest-grossing film of the year thus far — Mr. Robinov wants his next pack of superhero movies to be bathed in the same brooding tone as “The Dark Knight.” Creatively, he sees exploring the evil side to characters as the key to unlocking some of Warner Bros.’ DC properties. “We’re going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,” he says. That goes for the company’s Superman franchise as well.

The studio is set to announce its plans for future DC movies in the next month. For now, though, it is focused on releasing four comic-book films in the next three years, including a third Batman film, a new film reintroducing Superman, and two movies focusing on other DC Comics characters. Movies featuring Green Lantern, Flash, Green Arrow, and Wonder Woman are all in active development.

Fans aren’t the only ones who should be jumping for joy with these announcements. Seeing that there is a whole line of new superhero movies in the works, now would be a great time for aspiring actors/actresses or movie extras to join in the action. Superhero movies require more extras than any other genre. Where else can they find enough people to populate an entire fictitious city? Also, while the major roles might be set for more famous and established actors/actresses, there’s a good chance they might be looking for new faces to fill in minor roles. And if there’s one thing we should know about Hollywood, it’s that most well known celebrities started out small before being discovered as the next big thing.

Based on reports from TheOneRing.net and Entertainment Weekly, scriptwriting for The Hobbit movies has officially started.

The film will be based on the prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy (The Fellow of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King ). The story will revolve around a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins (Frodo’s uncle), and his adeventures with Gandalf the Grey. Together with a band of dwarves, they attempt to reclaim the dwarven kingdom from an evil dragon named Smaug. But the more interesting part is that audiences will finally see how Bilbo happened to stumble upon The One Ring, and witness the tribulations he had to endure.

The team of scriptwriters have already been named. Led by Director/Writer Guillermo del Toro, writing for the film will also be in the hands of Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, and Philippa Boyens.

It will be divided into two parts. The first one is scheduled to release 2010, while part two will follow a year later in 2011. Fans may have cause to worry about Jackson’s decision to pass the directorial torch to del Toro, but if his past films, such as Hellboy 1 and 2 , Blade 2 , and (most notably) Pan’s Labyrinth, are anything to go by, then we should be able to rest a little easier and expect lots of eye candy and flair.
