Johnny Depp Becomes a Public Enemy

The shoot of the 1930’s-set blockbuster Public Enemies started last March in Chicago with Michael Mann as director, scriptwriter and producer.

Public Enemies focuses on the pursuit to take down infamous criminal John Dillinger and other public fiends Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd. Famed actor Johnny Depp will play the role of Dillinger and is already setting the world in much anticipation, above is a first look photo of Depp as Dillinger during the early stages of the film’s shoot. Christian Bale will star as Melvin Purvis, an FBI agent, and recent Academy Award best actress winner Marion Cotillard joins the superb ensemble as Billie Frechette.

The drama is based on the 1930’s federal war against prominent and influential law-breakers thus the rise of the country’s first police force. The movie’s script is based on the book Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of FBI, 1933-43. Mann wrote the non-fictional script by himself, branching into the tales of other notorious criminals such as Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow or better known as Bonnie and Clyde. Though the story is abundant of criminals, it doesn’t imply connections between them, focusing only on John Dillinger.

Along with Public Enemies, Michael Mann also has a set of other current projects such as spy thriller Edwin A. Salt with Tom Cruise, Empire with Will Smith, and Frankie Machine with Robert DeNiro. Other stars such as Giovanni Ribisi, Stephen Dorf, Lost’s Emilie De Ravin, C.S.I.’s Rory Cochrane and Almost Famous’ Billy Crudup will join the superb ensemble of Public Enemies.
