“Ugly” Models are Starting to Make it Big

Finally, an agency is getting the attention it deserves as it sparks the start of what is hopefully a paradigm shift in the modeling industry. Forty years ago, two photographers suddenly came about the idea that print advertising needed a fresh new look. Gorgeous and seemingly perfect human beings fighting for attention in the industry became rather tiresome. So, armed with the motto, “from the bizarre to the beautiful, and everything in between,” they kept true to their words and turned to normal, everyday, yet uniquely different people as they searched for new models.

Seeing the collection of photos from their agency, courtesy of The Today Show, gives someone the feeling that anyone can be a modeling hopeful. Forget the days when snobbish and campy fashion “gurus” told everyone what "beautiful" was supposed to be. With UglyNY’s success, we might just see a revolution take place in due time, overthrowing an aesthetic dictatorship and replacing it with a more democratic taste. Who knows? Maybe even Hollywood will eventually go along.
